ABSOLUTELY NOT! Try filing YOUR teeth and see how painful that is. If it's a young cat, it's a phase -- they're all bitey when they're young. Try distracting them with a toy they CAN chew on. If it's chewing "things", go to the pet store and buy "Bitter Apple" spray as a repellant. Usually it's because they're teething and biting makes them feel better, plus it's a fun game to them. They do grow out of it, though.
Can a cat's teeth be file?? what to do with a cat that bites too much?
No, you can't file down a kitty's teeth.
If it is young it will probably outgrow biting. Don't "Rough house" with him.
Reply:i don't think I'd file any body's teeth without checking with a doctor. Has the cat been checked out lately? Have there been crazy weather changes or anything different around the house recently? Or has this always been a problem?
Reply:remove teeth
Reply:Why is the cat biting? If it's playing, just spray it with water and give it toys to chew on. If it's angry, you need look real closely at how you've been treating it, frankly. Filing or capping it's teeth isn't a solution.
Reply:NO!
Kitties bite and its just a phase. Just be sure you give it plenty of toys to play with and dont use your finger as a toy. Plus, reward your kitty or say praises to it when it plays with the toys. Be sure not to spank your kitty either, or you will make it afraid of you or worse, think that you are dont care and it will defend itself and bite you more.
If it's an adult, then bring it to the doctor and get professional medical recomendations.
Reply:Some cats nip or bite, if if was seriously biting, it could go down to the bone if it wanted to, just don't get the cat in the mood to bite. Don't spray with water or hit it. Please. Sometimes my big boy will get ovr excited when I play with him and when he bites a litle too hard, I say ouwy or some noise to that effect and he will realize he is hurtful and he will immediately let up and give me a kiss, then lightly play again. Don't even think about messing with that cat's teeth, have you ever had a tooth ache?
Reply:wow...amazing. If this is an adult cat, and the issue is when you are petting it, it bites, those are called LOVE bites. I am surprised no one else wrote about this! It is a...cat thang I guess, its showing passionate affection to you. Unless this is a crazy cat who just..attacks you??? if thats the case...might be cause its spend so much time trying to show you how much it loves you as a youngster, and you want its teeth filed. We have both a couple adults, that give me love bites, and there is no doubt its all about love..almost "marking me" as theirs. we have another youngin we recently rescued, who I seriously think doesnt know he is a cat..hangs out with the dog..and he will wrap around your hand and bite...but..its not vicious..its..a kitten.
Reply:No you cannot file your cats teeth! It's up to you as his human to teach him not to bite. I suggest not playing rough with him and don't let him think your are a chew toy. Give him things to redirect his attention and allow him to bite on things that only belong to him.
Reply:If your cat bites too hard then answer with a high-pitched squeal or shriek. Sometimes they don't realize how hard they are biting (especially if you don't have other animals to "teach" them not to play too rough).
Reply:Filing the cat's teeth will cause cavities and ultimately land you in whatever HELL your religion believes in. A little biting is normal... they don't have thumbs, so that's one of the ways that they grab. If you can't take that, you're a bigger wimp than the cat and should get a goldfish instead.
Here's what to do instead. You only have one or two chances, so get it right.
If the cat bites you HARD (you can't be a baby about this or the cat will be confused) immediately yell real loud. Chase it down yelling the whole time, grab it, and roughly pull it up in the air. Growl with wide eyes. BITE IT BACK (around the waist, shoulder or the back of the neck), being careful not to break bones or tear skin, or otherwise harm the animal.
You are trying to scare (NOT HURT!!!) it so bad that it learns that YOU ARE THE ALPHA CAT. This is a carefully calculated ACT to instill memories in the cat's head. The biting itself is the final scene of the ACT and should only be enough to remind the cat that you have much larger teeth. It should already be petrified at this point and will remember the visual shock of your big mouth more than anything.
If you're a bully or can't contain your anger, find another method. If the cat still bites hard, you're probably being too rough during play and it's getting scared.
Please realize (unlike the wuss-bags above) that cats like rough-housing, and you will have a deeper and more meaningful playtime relationship with the cat if you can rough-house (a little) back. Cats are very intelligent, and very playful. The act I've described will teach all but the most retardedly inbred cats that there are specific bounds on healthy play that it's not allowed to cross. This is also the same act that an adult cat will play out for a kitten to teach it how to not go too far.
Ya feel me?
Reply:I think the vet can do something liek that... also remove the one teeth that go in deep when they bite.
