My cat growls everytime i even get near her mouth... I made the mistake of not handling her enough when she was a kitten. She is now 5 years old, and has a little tarter build-up.
What is the best way to brush your cat's teeth?
I use a pet toothbrush (fits over my finger) and chicken toothpaste. I even do the feral cat I adopted but it takes a couple of days. Left side and he's had it. Next day right side. Wait a couple of weeks and start again.
However I do take him in to the vet every three years for a cleaning (along with his rabies shot). The vet techs and nurses will probably call me a bad owner because I don't do it every year, but this is a feral cat. Best I can do.
Reply:Gotta do it very carefully...
Or have a vet remove the tartar...
Reply:hm thats tough. go to ur vet and see what they say. they might have some suggestions or give you some tools. good luck!
Reply:let the vet.
Reply:don't brush a cats teeth just let them do their own thing. Don't worry you don't need to go that extra mile for pets.:-) or if it's really bad just take her to the vet
Reply:i have a solution if your cat won't let you go near her mouth. what i do is feed my cats natural choice dry cat food! they eat it like regular food, it is just a regular cat food, but the shape of the kibble gets the plaque away from the cats' teeth! and there's no smell either, so i really like that. its great and my cats think it tastes great! if you feed them that i dont think there is a need to brush their teeth! and maybe you dont need to feed the food or brush the teeth at all, imagine, how would they brush their teeth in the wild? i hope this helps and good luck!!!
Reply:Hello there, Alas the time has passed and the only thing you can do now is get your vet to do the dental work, although costly that's seems to be your only recourse.
Good luck and hope it turns out OK for you and your pet
Reply:If there is tartar already building up on your cat's teeth it is too late for you to brush it off. She needs to go to the vet and have them give her a dental to scrap it off and polish her teeth. Afterwards you can give her treats that is specially formulated to clean her teeth as she eats it.
Reply:its very hard to get a cat to sit still for anything that has to do with cleaning teeth. i dont car how much u handled them. mine are all very loving but teeth-they wont put up with it. typically their teeth should be checked yearly with there annual vet visit. if teeth need cleaned the vet will make an appt for a teeth cleaning. some cats need to be put under anestesia. but cats teeth must be cleaned when they need it or they can end up with rotting teeth and gum problems and infections which is serious and can make them very sick. so talk to your vet about getting kitties teeth cleaned if she wont cooperate. dont feel bad. most of them dont.
