2day , my cat had 5 teeth removed. i was wondering is she still going to be able to eat dry food or should i feed her wet food permanently ( i know that for now i should just feed her wet food)
Cat had 5 teeth teeth removed?
i would put out some dry food and see whether or not she can handle it first.
Reply:idn?
Reply:My grandma had the same thing done, we just put all her food in the blender first. A little mixy mix with her beloved Jack Daniels and she doesn't complain. Maybe the same can work for your kitty. = }
Reply:It really depends on what teeth were removed. I'd recommend feeding her wet food and slowly incorporating dry food. I have a little dog and I usually do this for him, that way the juices from the wet food softens up the dry food that is mixed in it. Once you see that your cat isn't having any problems chewing her dry food, you can slowly start taking away the wet food from her diet.
Reply:it really depends on how your cat recovers. it is a possibility that your cat will have to eat wet food for a very long time.
Reply:Our cat had 5 teeth removed as well. She was back on dry food about a week after. I think that your cat will be fine when you switch her back.
Reply:It depends on which 5 teeth. If they are all from the front or a specific area, the cat may have trouble. If the teeth removed are from different areas of the mouth, she may be ok. Try it, the cat will let you know.
Reply:Yeah, stick to the wet food for now because her little mouth is going to be very sore.
It really depends on which teeth were removed. If she got alot of back teeth removed, she'll have a hard time with dry food.
Reply:Your cat will eat what if feels like it can eat.
I feed only canned wheat gluten free food to my teenage cats, it's much healthier for them, but one elder I just adopted likes to nibble on dry. He has no teeth.
He is 19 years old, at his age he can eat what he wants. So yes, a cat with five teeth out can eat dry.
Reply:You may want to add a little water to your cats hard food to soften it up. However, if the vet didn't advise you to not feed hard food, you should be just fine.
Reply:Most cats swallow there food whole anyway but seriously, which teeth were removed? Was it his molars that are used for chewing? If so, I would continue using wet food. Its better for cats health anyway. Cats do not have a thirst drive so in result, they do not drink enough water to help with prevention in UTI's and other health issues that can occur. It also helps keep their teeth healthier. Where dry food gets stuck between the teeth, wet food gets licked off there teeth immediately.
Reply:While her mouth is healing, try to give her some kitten formula. Some cats don't chew their food, some do. A very small morsel cat food is Purina INDOOR cat food. It's small enough to swallow without chewing. Of course some Meow Mix food sold in a box of packets is easy to eat, tasty. It has 14% protein and that's good.
Reply:First, I would see if she can eat the dry food. If she can't, try putting some water on it. Then try wet food. Good Luck with your kitty!
Reply:Each cat is different. Most vets recommend you buying those fake plastic teeth--the ones sold to kids on Halloween-- and allow the cat to chew food with those for a few weeks.
Reply:I would offer her both and see which she eats, some dry foods are so small that some cats just swallow it whole. My vet said that even with teeth out they can still eat dry food, guess their gums adjust to it.
Reply:my cat has had teeth removed .now she only has three teeth left, she eats wet food but some time she will eat dry just leave both out and see which one she can handle the best she might be like my cat and just eat dry food now and then
Reply:I do Dental Hygiene for the little ones.
After your little ones mouth is healed a bit it is fine to offer dry food. She will know when she can tolerate to bite into the hard bits. So in a few days along with the wet food just set out a small amount of dry and you can monitor if she is interested in eating it or not.
Reply:Many cats just swallow dry food whole without chewing, even those who have had teeth extracted, but wet food is really a better diet for cats. Make sure she has fresh water available. On rare occasions, food particles get stuck in the wound and cause an infection. You can also try some cat milk (JustBorn or KMR) or liquid diet (Rebound) while she is recovering. Don't fuss with her too much during recovery. Extractions are very traumatic for many cats. Leave her alone in a warm and quiet place.
