Shes 17, she had a teeth cleaning 2 years ago where she had to be put out.. Now the vet says her teeth are bad and she needs to have the cleaning again and be put out..
He had her monitored with EKG, etc,,, but im worried, is this safe for 17 year old cat?
her teeth are bad.
I feel guilty cause i didnt brush them.
My cat needs a teeth cleaning again, is this safe?
Teeth cleaning with sedation is safe with a few precautions.
Since she is 17 years old, the vet should run a senior blood panel on her to check for any problems before sedation.
Then ask if the anesthesia is kidney friendly and if she will or can have fluids administered during the procedure.
Purrs to you and kitty.
Reply:It isn't common to brush a cat's teeth, so don't feel guilty. For future reference, giving kitty a RAW bone (from chicken or turkey, large enough to not be ingested whole) will help remove plaque and tartar from her teeth! Make sure it is RAW, as cooking it will cause the bone to splinter.
As long as he is monitoring her with the EKG, everything should be fine hon! She's probably in pain if her teeth are bad, and I'm sure that isn't what you want. Trust your vet! If you are very concerned, discuss your concerns with him, so that he can reassure you.
