Do cats teeth sometimes grow too long?

My cats teeth (one on each side) seem to be too long. They seem to go down over her lower lip. She can still eat dry cat food and it doesn't seem to bother her. I want to take her to the vet but everyone laughs at me saying the vet is not a dentist and can't do anything about it. Has anyone's cat had a similar problem?

My cat is like that too! I don't think there is anything wrong with it, don't worry about it. I am sure its just something genetic where the canine teeth are longer, I searched it online a while ago and found that some cats just have longer canine teeth that others.

If its not bothering her, it shouldn't be bothering you! :D

Reply:Cat's upper canine teeth do slightly run over their lower lip. Sometimes the cat covers them, and sometimes if they just hissed or bit at something, they are still 'barred.' It could be possible, however, I'm not sure if it's really that they're "too long." If they are, by chance, you can definately take the cat to the vet. They DO do dentist work (as they clean teeth and such) so the people laughing at you are ignorant. If it's not bothering your cat, though, I wouldn't spend the money to grind them down if there's no reason other than the "look."
