What is the best way to clean your cats teeth.?
Hi there...I thought I'd include a helpful website below that shows photos on how to brush your kitties teeth with step-by-step instructions as well. Be sure to use cat toothpaste (found at any pet store) and NOT human toothpaste. The human variety is very toxic to our pets.

Reply:I use a toothbrush...no big deal...my cat likes it...good luck with yours.
Reply:TOOTH BRUSH, that's common sense!!!!
Reply:"Clan them"? "White teeth"?

Racist!
Reply:The easiest way to clean your cats teeth is to take it to the vet.
Reply:Make sure you use only pet toothpaste, wait till the cat is calm put some on your finger first massage around till the cat gets used to it,then brush the teeth, make sure you praise the cat %26amp;give it a treat when done.
Reply:There are special treats that clean their teeth
Reply:Being a licensed vet tech, I would say the best way to clean your cat's teeth would be to take it to the vet and have them do it. They will be able to get them totally clean for you and remove all the plaque and tatar. They have special tools, like your dentist does, to clean its teeth with. They also are able to apply flouride and other things when they are done to help reduce the speed at which the tartar builds up again. Once you have gotten that done, you can clean your cat's teeth by using a tooth brush (the finger brush works best) and pet tooth paste. This may take some time to get your cat used to it. Just progress slowly and persistantly. Start out with just the tooth paste on your finger or the brush and just letting the cat lick it off. When it's comfortable with that, you can move on to putting the brush in its mouth and so on. DO NOT move on to the next step until your cat is comfortable with the current one. If your cat wont let you brush its teeth or you don't want to get that close to its mouth, they also have flouride type stuff you can squirt in their mouth, treats that have special enzymes in them that will help reduce tartar, and this stuff you can put in their water. They also have special food made specifically to help reduce the speed at which tartar builds up on your pets teeth. None of these products will totally get rid of the tartar, but they will help slow down the build-up process. The only way to get rid of it, is to take it to the vet and have them clean them when it starts to build-up again. You can ask them if they think it's time to do them again at your cat's annual check up.
Reply:I would ask my vet or go to pet co where the pets go
Reply:Brushing, if kitty will allow it. Some will.

My vet once told me that she doesn't usually recommend that her clients brush their cats' teeth because of the danger of injury.

I said I didn't know you could injure a cat when brushing its teeth.

She said she didn't mean the cat...

Still, maybe your cat is one who would go along with it.

If not, dental treats have some value - if kitty will munch them. Some cats love 'em, but none of my cats had any interest in any of the many types I tried.

If all else fails, a dental proxy by a vet every couple years might be the best you can do. You should probably do that anyway...
