Can I help my cat when she's losing her baby teeth?

My cat is about 6 months, and she just lost one of her front incisors while we were playing. Since she bit me when it came out, I noticed she is bleeding a little bit. Is there anything that I can do for her ... she doesn't appear to be in pain, but she's a little freaked out and I can't tell if the bleeding is going to be awhile. Any help would be great, thank you advance.

Most kittens lose their teeth while feeding, and swallow them, so you never actually see them lose them, but playing rough does it as well. Unless there is a large amount of blood that won't clot, don't worry about it. If the cat seems to be in pain, starts acting strange, or the bleeding doesn't stop, contact your vet.





If you are worried about it, you can open up it's mouth and take a look as well, make sure it wasn't a broken tooth, or see if it cut the inside of it's mouth. in most cases vet care isn't necessary though, kitties at that age are pretty resilient :p

Reply:Nope - don't need to do a thing for kitty. In fact, if you look you'll probably see her adult incisor coming in. Cute! She'll be just fine.

Reply:cats lose their baby teeth and its usually uneventful. The bleeding should stop in a few minutes. In the meantime spend some quiet time together and be calm and play gently. Feed canned food a day or 2 to rest the area. Check it for redness. Its going to be fine.
Reply:It doesn't really bother them that much. I've had four cats and barely ever noticed they were loosing their baby teeth until I'd find them on the floor. It might bleed a little, that's natural. It might have freaked her out because she was playing and only fell out because she bit down on you. Most will fall out naturally or while she's eating. if their is a lot of blood see a vet but otherwise she should be fine. Maybe leave her a few toys she likes to chew on. Try sticking one in the frig so it is cold for her to bite on. I don't suggest canned food like the person above me because once they try it a lot of cats will never want dry food again and wet food is a big pain.

Reply:All kittens have baby teeth and usually start losing them between 3 and 6 months of age. Relax - tt's a normal part of kittenhood. She's probably "a little freaked out" because you are. The bleeding should be minimal. It shouldn't slow her down one bit and feeding her usual food is fine.





Like previous posters have commented, you usually don't even know it's happened!
Reply:i was the same way but it is normal. My would get my cats straws (like 100) when I would go to fast food places for free and they love to chew on them. Try that it will be nice for her to have plus put some ice in her water bowl it will numb her gums.





Cats are very good at hiding pain. Even if their hurt its hard for us to ever know just bc they dont show it. But this is normal all cats go through it, they are ok. You may notice her sleeping a lot. When they teeth they sleep A LOT. That is really what helps the pain and new growing.





ANd their called milking teeth same thing as baby teeth and yes THEy do have them for the person who said they dont and yes they do come out and their adult teeth grow in. DOnt go to the vet its normal, lol.
Reply:Check the bottom of their food bowls. I have found several baby teeth there. I kept them as a kid, and even got the tooth fairy to leave me a quarter and my kitty a new toy.





Your kitty is fine and think of this as a few extra days of one less tooth mark embedded in your skin. Soon she will have all new teeth to chew on you with.
Reply:I get nervous, too, but the cat is fine. Since they don't usually fall out in such a dramatic way, you and kitty must have been startled.





I tend to run to the vet- simply because they have the best info. This is easier if you have a reasonable vet who doesn't overcharge (like mine). But you may not want to make a separate trip, so next time you go for an exam write down all your questions so you're prepared and have a discussion about how kitty will develop and what you need to do. maybe it just fell off from playing too hard
